Treating obesity that is worsening a work-related
injury can result in decreased pain, improved
functional capacity, improved quality of life, and faster return to
work. Our goal
is to help
you return to your pre-injury level of
function as soon as feasible. Dr. Myers will set a goal weight for you based
on your medical and dietary histories,
current medical status, exercise capability, and
any other
factors that may influence
your ability to reach and maintain a lower body weight. Some orthopedic
surgeons
may suggest
a goal weight that
is lower than the one
Dr. Myers sets
for you. These physicians may even recommend a different
weight-loss program
for
you that promises
faster
weight loss. Our goal
weights may still be considered obese by some standards, but they
are realistic
and
based on
established guidelines
and what
Dr. Myers believes
you can realistically reach and maintain. The key to effective weight loss is behavior modification
(lifestyle change).
We help you achieve this with weekly group sessions
conducted by our licensed
behavioral therapist. You learn to change your undesirable
eating habits and inactive
lifestyles (within the limitations imposed
by your injury) and
to recognize and
overcome the factors that contribute
to your weight condition.
You benefit from both group support and individualized
professional
guidance
by our dietician
and behavioral
therapist. We are
committed to our patients’ long-term
success. Our behavior
modification programs
can give you the
motivation, exercise guidance, nutrition education,
and support you need to ensure successful
maintenance, especially
after an injury. If other medical or
psychological factors
contribute to your
weight condition,
we will use our expertise
to facilitate
the management
of these conditions. We have been helping
obese patients
since 1980, and will
continue
to offer a wide
range of
weight management
programs. To schedule a consultation,
please phone
our office at (562)
493-2266 and
ask for
Carrie
McDermott. You
will need to
obtain a
referral from
your treating health
professional;
and we require
written authorization
from your carrier.
We
have extensive
experience working
with Workers
Compensation
carriers. If you wish, you can
email
us with
your day and evening telephone
numbers and we
will
be happy to
call you.
